Pricing

What it costs, before you commit to anything.

Czech crown prices are the binding ones. Switch currency to see roughly what that is in yours. Once work starts, nothing changes without you agreeing to it first.

Fixed price or "from"?

A Windows reinstall is a known quantity, so it gets a fixed price. A nasty malware infection or moving ten years of data off an old phone is not, so those start at a base price and get a firm quote once I can see what's involved.

The bill never grows quietly

If a job turns out bigger than it looked, you hear about it and agree a new price before I carry on. No discovering it at the end.

No VAT on top

I'm not registered as a Czech VAT payer, so the price you see is the full price. Nothing gets added at the end.

No fix, no full charge

If I can't solve it, you pay for diagnostic time already spent and nothing more. You'll know a fix is unlikely before you're deep into a bill.

Paying in your own currency

Most people arriving in Prague don't have a Czech bank account yet, and visitors never do. So payment works in whatever you actually hold. CZK, EUR, USD, GBP and AUD are the five on the price list, and card or bank transfer works in more than 40 currencies in total. Cash is fine in crowns, euros, dollars or pounds; for anything else, ask first.

How you payFeeWhy
Czech crowns, cash or cardNo feeNothing to convert
Foreign currency, card or bank transfer+2.5%Covers conversion and transfer costs
Foreign currency, cash+4%Physical exchange costs more than digital

The cheapest route is usually paying by card in crowns and letting your own bank convert it. If a card terminal or ATM offers to charge you in your home currency instead, say no: that option almost always uses a worse rate. And if you need cash, avoid the Euronet ATMs and exchange booths around the tourist areas, they're notorious for poor rates.

What's not on the list

Anything involving hardware. Screen replacements, batteries, keyboards, charging ports and liquid damage all need a workshop, not me. Ask anyway and I'll point you at somewhere decent rather than leaving you to search blind.

VAT and invoices

Prices on this page are final. No VAT is added to them, so nothing extra appears at the bottom of the invoice. You get a proper invoice for every job, so business clients can claim it as an expense. Companies registered for VAT in another EU country are invoiced under the reverse-charge rules.

Business rates

Companies with more than a handful of machines usually work out better on a monthly arrangement than job by job. That covers onboarding new laptops, keeping things patched and backed up, and being the person you call when something breaks. Tell me roughly how many devices and people are involved and I'll put a number to it. Full details on the business IT support page.

Common questions about pricing

Why are some prices fixed and others "from"?

Jobs with a predictable shape, like a Windows reinstall, get a fixed price. Jobs whose size depends on what I find, like a bad malware infection or moving years of data off an old phone, start at a base price and get a firm quote once the scope is clear.

What happens if a job takes longer than quoted?

You get a revised quote before any extra work happens. The quote is agreed in advance, so the bill never grows without your say-so.

Which currencies can I pay in?

CZK, EUR, USD, GBP and AUD are shown above, and card or transfer works in over 40 currencies in total. Foreign-currency card or bank transfer adds 2.5%, foreign cash adds 4%, and Czech crowns carry no fee.

Do you charge if you can't fix the problem?

Not the full job rate. You pay only for diagnostic time already spent, and you're told before that point that a fix is unlikely.

Do you take card in person?

Yes, along with cash and bank transfer. Whatever's easiest for you.
