Is your laptop actually finished?
Usually not. A large share of machines people are ready to replace are running badly for fixable reasons: years of startup programs nobody removed, a drive that's full or failing, a bad driver, or an install that's simply accumulated too much. A clean reinstall on the same hardware often feels like a different computer.
Where the honest answer is that it isn't worth it, you'll get that answer too. There's no sense charging you to nurse along a machine that needs replacing, and I'd rather say so than take the money.
What a repair involves
- Diagnosis: working out whether it's software, storage, or something hardware-related that needs a workshop instead.
- Backup first: your files are secured before anything invasive happens, not after.
- Repair or reinstall: boot repairs, driver fixes and update problems get sorted in place where possible. Where an install is too far gone, a clean reinstall is the faster route.
- Drivers and updates: Wi-Fi, graphics, sound and printer all working before you get it back, not left as homework.

Repair or reinstall?

Will I lose my files if Windows is reinstalled?
No. Files are backed up before a reinstall and put back afterwards. If a drive is failing badly, the recovery odds are explained before anything is touched.
My laptop is slow. Do I need a new one?
Often not. Plenty of laptops written off as too old are fixed by clearing startup bloat, reinstalling cleanly, or replacing a tired drive. You'll get an honest answer on whether the machine is worth keeping.
What causes a blue screen error?
Usually a driver conflict, failing storage, or memory trouble. The error code narrows it down, so photograph the screen if you can before restarting.
Do you have a Windows licence, or do I need one?
Most machines have a licence tied to the hardware and reactivate on their own after a reinstall. If yours doesn't, that gets checked before work starts rather than discovered at the end.
Windows won't start at all. Is it fixable?
Frequently yes. Boot failures are often repairable without wiping anything, and even where a reinstall is needed, files can usually be pulled off the drive first.
How to get it sorted
- If there's an error code or blue screen, photograph it before restarting. That code often decides the whole diagnosis.
